Job Summary:
The Lead Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing and stimulating environment that supports the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of young children. As a key member of the teaching team, the Lead Teacher plans and implements age-appropriate curricula, fosters positive relationships with children and their families, and mentors assistant teachers to ensure a high standard of education and care.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development and Implementation:
- Plan, develop, and execute age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with educational standards and preschool philosophy.
- Integrate creative, hands-on activities that foster curiosity and promote holistic development.
- Monitor and assess children’s progress through observations and documentation.
Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and engaging classroom environment.
- Encourage positive behaviors and address challenges with constructive strategies.
- Ensure the classroom is clean, organized, and well-equipped.
Child Development Support:
- Provide individualized attention to support each child’s unique learning style and developmental needs.
- Foster the development of social-emotional skills through collaboration, communication, and empathy-building activities.
Family Engagement:
- Communicate regularly with families about their child’s progress, activities, and milestones.
- Build strong relationships with parents to support a collaborative approach to their child’s education.
Team Leadership:
- Mentor and guide assistant teachers, fostering professional growth and teamwork.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and ensure compliance with classroom schedules and routines.
- Collaborate with staff and administration to uphold preschool policies and standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- State-required certifications and licenses for preschool teachers.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in early childhood education, preferably a part of it in a lead teaching role.
- Strong knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to [X] pounds and engage in active play.
- Comfortable working at children’s eye level (sitting, kneeling, or bending).
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
